Dear Whitmer Families, Friends, and Community:
It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the 2013-2014 school year! As I reflect on the many changes taking place in Education, and even within the Washington Local School District, I am reminded of a quote by the author and cultural anthropologist, Margaret Mead, who said: "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” That quote embodies what I've come to know of Washington Local Schools, its faculty, staff, and community stakeholders over the last twelve years. Our own "small group of thoughtful, committed citizens" helps us to consistently exceed expectations, celebrate triumphs, and work through the many challenges facing the 21st century classroom. In this district, we strive to give students infinite opportunities and individual attention. Through our rigorous academics and outstanding extracurricular activities, we help our students reach for their highest potential. In so doing, I believe we change the world for the better, one student at a time.
As I step into my new position as Whitmer High School Principal, I find those cornerstones of commitment and community will most certainly pave the way for our continued success. We are a vibrant learning community. What we do is unique. Our work outside the norm, and I am pleased and proud to be a leader for our faculty, staff, and students as we continue to demonstrate to others how our dedicated team is changing the world for the better, one student at a time.
In Washington Local Schools, we live by these core values: Courage, Dedication, Dignity, Excellence, Gratitude, Honesty, Loyalty, Respect, Responsibility, Service, Teamwork, and Trust. Each of these pillars represents a key to the way in which we engage student learning, meet the challenges put before us, and foster our own professionalism. We do our best to live these values everyday and expect nothing less from our students. It is my belief that by instilling such values we change the world for the better, one student at a time.
Life's path is an endless journey of change, and as we embark on our new school year, I want to wish you the best on your journeys. I am dedicated to making Whitmer High School a continued success. We house our future's most precious commodity, and as we educate them to become citizens of the world, allow me to thank you for your part in making this a reality. I look forward to serving as your principal.
