Some of the most powerful things in life can't be seen--your faith, your beliefs, your hopes, and your dreams.
You can't touch a dream. You can't hold it in your hand. But dreams have the power to shape the future; a dream that is realized can change the world. Our dreams guide us and sometimes define us. They reflect who we are and who we want to be.
Our nation has been built on dreams. The phrase "the American Dream" has come to be known as synonymous with freedom, opportunity, prosperity, and success. Men and women followed their dreams to a new world and fought for them. Dreams have led to freedom, democracy, and equality.
Dreams have fueled technology. Dreams put a man on the moon, a cell phone in every hand, and have turned science fiction into reality.
And the dreams continue--dreams of peace and the end of war, dreams of a world free from hunger, poverty, and disease.
When I'm asked to speak, I frequently ask my audience, "What's your dream? What's your passion?" I tell them to hold tight to their dreams, and I urge them to not let anyone tell them they're not good enough, or smart enough, or pretty enough to succeed. Achieving your dreams IS possible, but it requires belief in oneself; it takes courage, discipline, and perseverance.
Have a great year, and may all of your dreams come true!
