Schools:20th Annual WLS
Candlelight Walk
The 2009 Candlelight Walk, held on Tuesday, October 13, at Whitmer Stadium, was attended by approximately 1,075 students.
This annual event demonstrates our support for a drug-free
community. This year's event continued our tradition of
building student character through an emphasis on WLS's core
values.
Featured on this year's program were:
- WHS Marching Band
- WHS Cheerleading Squad
- WHS Vocalist singing the National Anthem
- Raffle drawing for wonderful prizes
- A door prize for every student in attendance
- Our essay winners
- Parent Pledge
- Student Drug Free Pledge, and of course,
- The Candlelight Walk around the Whitmer Campus!
Building-level activities were
planned for students to take an active role in pledging to be
drug free.
Building-Level Activities
- Essay Contest
- Core Value Emphasis in each building
- Door Decorating Contests
- Guidance Lessons on staying drug free
Participation
Incentives:
- Students in grades K-3 received a special Red Ribbon
Week participation item
- Essay winners (Grades 4 - 12) received a $25 gift
certificate
- Ice cream party for Meadowvale who had the highest percent of students
attending the Candlelight Walk
